David was a genuine pleasure to know and to work with. And a reliable source of advice and rum as the situation might dictate. And needling and poking him was great fun because one knew there would be a masterful and well placed return volley that would end the match with a laugh. He will be missed by many.

I was so sorry to hear of David's passing. I have very fond memories of joining him on several field surveys through the environmental firm that we both worked for. Altho I never had a botany class in my training as an ecologist, I had a strong interest in plants and David further sparked my interest, leading to a several-decades self-study of botany and particularly edible and medicinal plants of Florida. I owe much of my plant passion to that original spark lit by David's love of the plants. Without fail, he was kind, smart, humorous, and enjoyable to be around.

Although David and I met in Orlando, through our shared love of plants and experiences in forensic botany, we became instant friends.
He had spent summers in his youth working on a relative's farm in Idaho, just a few miles from where I live and grew up. David was often able to visit while in the area to see his relatives, and this afforded me the opportunity to see him more often that at the occasional WSSA meeting. He also took the time to attend a "botany get together' that I held for like-minded folks from around the United States, and I was able to visit him in Florida where we spent days photographing plants.
He was a true gentleman, and an inspiration. He will be missed and remembered.

Dr. Hall was a member of my graduate committee at University of Florida at the beginning of his forensic botany career. I had never met a man with such detailed recall of botanical information and insight. I made it a personal goal to hand him a plant sample that he did not know. I never accomplished my goal. The regrettably few post-college conversations I had with him were filled with information and insight into botany and life. Rest in peace Dr. Hall .You are one of a kind, and I will never forget you.

David and I traveled the world together and in the process, published 4 plant ID books and finished a 5th one on Caribbean plants just prior to his passing. Always full of energy, many entertaining stories, and life's insights, I always cherished the time spent with him and will miss him dearly. RIP my friend.

Uncle David was such a special person. He told the best stories and loved to make others laugh. He also made Christmas a special and fun time. Come to think of it, he embodied the spirit of Christmas all year long - he was giving, kind, and compassionate. When I went to UF, he told me that I needed to buy an umbrella and always keep it with me because it would protect me from the sun and the rain. Other memories that I associate with Uncle David are his love of steak, his love of plants and walking through the marshes, his love of his old Corvette, his love of story telling, his love of Cruzan Rum, and his love for Tiia. May he Rest in Peace. We will miss him.

David was so funny and gracious. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome . We loved his stories, especially the forensic work ones. I was proud to call him Uncle and will miss seeing him at our favorite Gainseville pit stop.
